Four needle families, one engineering standard. Here's how VLDS, LDS, HPC and PRE differ.
This comparison presents documented characteristics of VLDS, LDS, HPC and PRE. VLDS is FDA 510(k)-cleared for ophthalmic use in the United States and includes product-specific particulate and endotoxin controls.

FDA 510(k)-cleared for ophthalmic use in the United States, tested for USP <789> particulate compliance and specified to a bacterial endotoxin limit of 0.2 EU per device.
Uses the same low-dead-space hub intended to reduce medication retained at the needle connection and support product conservation, for broader use.
Differentiation
Each family leads with a different strength. VLDS is the only one with documented ophthalmic clearance and lot-level testing, so it's the default for intravitreal work. LDS carries the same low-dead-space hub into broader use. HPC and VLDS add a rigid, externally threaded hub that holds its connection under higher pressure. PRE covers the widest range of gauges and lengths, for the cases the others don't quite fit.
The hub only tells part of the story, though. How the needle actually performs (flow, injection force) comes from the whole system: your formulation's viscosity, the cannula's wall and internal diameter, and the syringe it's paired with.
